Abstract

The murder of student Robin García during the internal conflict in Guatemala, generated the discontent of the population so the day of his burial, held a funeral procession known as la Marcha de los claveles rojos. The photographer Mauro Calanchina captured this moment that has endured in guatemalan history and imaginary, where demonstrators hoisted a red carnation. In this reseach we will approach the process that gave raise to the march, exposing interpretations, meanings and uses that had given Calanchina´s photography and have been linked to the construction of revolutionary ideology, and the instrumentalization of martyrdom as part of an ideological project.
