Las elecciones municipales y la recomposición política en Chile: desafíos y perspectivas (2008-2010)

Abstract
El propósito del presente artículo es evaluar los antecedentes, los
resultados y las implicaciones políticas derivadas de las elecciones municipales chilenas realizadas el día 26 de octubre de 2008. En la opinión de los autores, esta elección implicó el inicio de una recomposición de las fuerzas político-electorales chilenas, resultando en la primera victoria significativa de la coalición opositora de centro-derecha y, concomitantemente, una significativa derrota electoral en el ámbito nacional, de la Concertación, que gobierna el país desde 1990. Aun reconociendo que esta elección tiene fundamentalmente impacto en la esfera local o municipal, sus consecuencias en el plano nacional adquieren relevancia, dado que en 2009 serán realizadas las elecciones presidenciales que llevarán un nuevo gobernante a La Moneda.
